Meeting with me

This page lays out my expectations of students and what you can expect from me.

  • If you are taking my class, come to office hours to discuss course material. If your schedule conflicts with office hours, email me directly to arrange a time.
  • Graduate or undergraduate students who want to meet to discuss research (including my advisees) can sign up for a 20-minute appointment using the online link: Office hours appointments. Note that due to the high volume of demand for my time, these slots fill up several weeks out. Please plan accordingly.
  • Advisees should email me documents they want to discuss at least 24 hours prior to our meeting. Also bring a hard copy of tables or text to our meeting. When we meet, I will usually suggest things to do. At the end of the meeting, we should sum up what next steps you will take. You need to make your best effort to do these things before meeting again, or, explain to me why it doesn’t make sense to do those things, or what problems have arisen in the attempt. If it is easiest for you to create and share a Google doc listing each action point and subsequent action, please do so. Give me the ability to edit the document.
  • I expect you to begin each meeting by providing an explicit agenda for the meeting.
